Re - Establishment of Sholas in Grassland

Sholas are relics of extinct vegetation which are now confined to a few pockets in the world. Sholas are probably one of the most valuable treasures of the hills as the prime water shed and as shelter for wildlife. They are considered 'living fossil' (Gupta, 1968) for their sheer antiquity and virtual non-regeneration. Even asthetically they are unmatched. Once destroyed, is difficult for them to reestablish in adverse factors such as frost (Ranganathan, 1938), wind and drought for which they are prone. Now due to plantations raised by Forest Department in grassland. Sholas are again in the process of re-establishing slowly in the areas from where once they disappeared.
