Media Coverage of Crime, Public Perceptions and Human Rights Violations
Subscribe/Renew Journal
News stories on sex, crime and violence are the major money making sources for the media. They are relatively inexpensive to produce and easy to capture the attention of the audience. Media have an ability to visualize an artificial environment that may be seen by the public as real event. This paper examines the sense of coverage of crime news in the media, relates the public concern about crimes and the issues associated with the illustration of human rights in the media. An attempt is also made to explore the possible ways in the reinforcement of human values and the principles of the fundamental rights in the media.
