Biochemical variability of Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) Gene and its Relationship with Bone Mineral Density in Children of the Western Region of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Subscribe/Renew Journal
25-OH vitamin D deficiency in children and adolescents can impair mineral metabolism in bone tissue. There are 3 possible vitamin D receptor genotypes: Tt, Tc and Cc. A link between low levels of this vitamin and increased bone fragility was previously described. However, a clear pattern between the vitamin uptake and the musculoskeletal system state was not always observed. Vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism which is slightly different among representatives of Russian and Kazakh ethnic groups suggests the differences in the uptake of the biologically active substance in children. VDRs are located in many human organs and systems. They regulate the gene transcription and are also involved in many chemical reactions. Conditionally healthy children, representatives of different ethnic groups were selected for this study. Special laboratory conditions provided reliable data on the level of vitamin D in each child studied. We also compiled a number of tables and graphs that illustrate the prevalence of VDR genotypes, the frequency of different receptors in normal, osteopenic and osteoporotic signs of bone mineral density.
