Kishore Biyani started his career selling stonewash fabric to small shops in Mumbai. He was born in a middle class trading family. Known as the man who brought Indian retail under global spotlight, Biyani launched Pantaloons (which he later sold off), Big Bazaar, Food Bazaar, Central and K B Retail. The latter format failed to take off. It was supposed to be a format somewhere between Big Bazaar and the kirana (mom and pop) stores.
