Plagiarism - The Legal and Ethical Issues

In recent weeks there were some healthy discussions among the LIS professionals about the acts of plagiarism in almost every subject and more concerned with in LIS research papers. As responsible professionals and watch dog to prevent such acts and protect the rights of the creators of new information and knowledge, it is our moral responsibility to ridicule such acts and regard it as one of the professional ethics. This editorial has been written in appreciation of the commendable responsibility projected by our professionals and observe its outcome in coming years. In fact plagiarism in legal terms is not a crime but is considered unethical. There are arguments and counter arguments commenting aggressively/passionately about the copyright compliance and plagiarism etc. But there are some positivistic attitude with some prompt, candid and honest responses from many. In this context some distinct concepts of legal and ethical issues of plagiarism are portrayed here.
