Metrics Based Research Assessment and Evaluation - Proceedings of the National Workshop on Using Different Metrics for Assessing and Research Productivity

In India, Academic and Research assessment and evaluation is catching-up since last two decades with the initiatives taken by UGC, AICTE and other regulatory bodies in higher education. The UGC established National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), as an autonomous body for assessing the research productivity of Universities and Colleges. Similarly, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has also set up National Board of Accreditation for the professional institutions. There are other bodies which are also keeping watch on the quality of higher education. In this context organizing this National Workshop purports some good reasons and stands to benefit those involved in the task. There are number of new parameters that are identified now, such as Impact Factor of journals, the H-Index, the national indicators on science productivity and so on. The papers in this volume add as a catalyst to such metric measurements of research productivity.
