Information Literacy Programmes in India

The developments in ICT have affected every segments of society and all levels of education. Users need to acquire new sets of skills in order to utilize the resources at learning centres. They will have to be taught as to how to manage their learning process to an unprecedented degree. This paper gives the meaning of information literacy, needs and importance of information literacy programs, librarians role in the information literacy programmes and information literacy in Indian context. Suggests for information literacy plan for various communities to take India to Millennium 2020 and recommendations are made for the implementation of Information Literacy Program.
