Library and Information Science Education in India

Adequate and effective access to information for all is an important requirement in any civil society. Libraries and information institutions of all kinds play a major role in democratizing access to knowledge and information. Training of appropriate human resources required to build, operate and manage today's libraries and information centres is of crucial importance in shaping and determining the ability of the profession to meet the emerging challenges. Surely library and information services and education for LIS are at cross roads, given the rapidly changing information environment.
