Admission Seeking Variables of Agricultural Science Students in the College of Horticulture, Thrissur:A Profile Analysis

The present paper is based on the results of a study conducted to investigate the socio-economic background of the undergraduate students in agricultural science who sought admission in the College of Horticulture, Thrissur, Kerala, for the academic year 2004-05. The method of data collection is a survey study through questionnaire. The motivational sources to the success of getting admission to this course are also studied. It is attempted to find out variations if any, in the urban, semi-urban and rural student’s approach to seek admission. The results show that more than 80% of the sample consist of female students; 59% of the students hail from rural areas; Hindus occupy 63% of the sample; parents ranked first as the motivational sources.
