Information Seeking Behaviour of Rural People:A Study

The present study is based on 667 rural respondents of Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. It defines the term information, information seeking, behaviour, rural people and describes the major studies conducted on the topic. It includes objectives, hypothesis, scope, limitations of the study. Major findings are: 566 (84.85%) respondents seek information through television, which is the main source of information seeking in rural areas. Regarding familiarity with new technologies most of the respondents (98.50%) are familiar with telephone, while only 29 (4.34%) people are familiar with Internet. Almanac is a main reference and information source for getting of information. Regarding Government schemes 76.46% people depend on radio/television to get information in rural areas.
