Role of Community Information Centres in Rural Development:A State-of-the-Art in Karnataka

The paper attempts to highlight the role of Community Information Centres in rural development with special reference to Karnataka State notifying the concept of rural development and Community Information Centres, its objectives and information services to cater to the information needs of the rural society. In view of the significance of the Community Information Centers especially with the advent of information and communication technology, how this ICTs can be effectively employed in enhancing citizen's capacities in rural areas. Further, the paper explores the various e-projects undertaken by the government of Karnataka in promoting the use of electronic information resources and services to the rural masses.
