Books are/or use is Dr.S.R.Ranganathan's first of his Five Laws of Library Science, although it was the last to be verbalised. It is the principal law , the other four being implications and extensions of it. The term "book" has been defined by Ranganathan as consisting of the Soul, that is, the ideas, subjects embodied, the Subtle Body, that is, the language and the form and format of expression and presentation of the ideas/subjects embodied, and the Gross Body, that is, the physical carrier of the embodied ideas.
