Developments in the Indian Telecom Sector: Implications for Libraries and Information Centres

The paper attempts to survey the achievements already made and the landmark developments that are taking place in the telecommunication sector in India. It gives emphasis to the technology and the present state of affairs of the value-added services like radio paging, cellular telephones, e-mail, voice mail, data services, audiotex, videotex, and videoconferencing which were thrown open to the private sector in this decade. It also covers the major telecommunication technologies that are considered for adoption in the country.
