Education and Training for the User and the Information Specialist : An overview

Discusses how and to what extent scientists and engineers should and can be taught about the role of communication in science and engineering and the use of scientific and technical information resources. Reports on an increasing awareness among science and engineering educators that concentration should not solely be on the content and methodologies of particular disciplines, but should include the skills of scientific communication. Implications of an information-conscious scientific community on the professional information specialist is explored. An experimental programme being conducted to train information specialists is also given.
