The basic concept of representation techniques are: symbols, fact lists, semantic networks, logic predicates, rules or production systems, frames and knowledge objects. These basic representation entities are used to construct representation of schemes with desired characteristics for particular applications. To provide powerful expressiveness, conciseness and easy modifiability by domain experts, the representation schemes evolve into stand-alone high-level programming languages. Further research in this field is to work towards the following aspects.
