Performance Measurement:A Criteria for Quality Improvement in Library and Information Services

The changing scenario of looking at library and information systems as profit making organization, which inturn has resulted in subjecting them for review and control measures quite similar to any other organization, is ascertained. In this context, the author has looked at the role of performance measures in Quality Improvement Programmes of libraries. An attempt has been made to identify and enumerate 'Performance Indicators' and 'Unit of Measurement' for different library operations. Further, tools of quality management which are applicable to these operations and thereby improving the performance quality are also enlisted.
