The discourse and agenda of Corporate Social Responsibility in India are being set by the state and the corporate. Various mechanisms are being employed to provide legitimacy and acceptance to CSR in India. This article takes a critical look at the CSR discourse in India by locating CSR within the political economy of the country, the legitimization process, main actors in CSR and the problems within this CSR discourse.
