Subscribe/Renew Journal
Malnutrition is common among indian population, but is of greatest consequence in young children. In India, 51 per cent of all children below five years are undernourished. Approximately 36 per cent of children born in India are of Low Birth Weight (LBW) as a result of prenatal malnutrition. The study undertaken by National Family Health Survey found that almost half of children under three years were underweight for their age (18% severely). At least one in five children was under weight in every State. Forty six per cent were stunted (23 % severely) in their height for age.
