Nutritional and Physical Fitness Status of Selected Services Athletes

The importance of proper nutrition and diet to the overall fitness and health of the individual throughout the life span is well recognised. Health and sports are closely related. Nutrition assumes a vital role in the field of sports because it plays an important role in maintaining the individuals physical fitness. An athlete who is involved in muscular activities should have optimum nutrition for good physical performance. The optimum diet providing all the essential nutrients for the athlete must be event specific and suited to their individual needs to maintain optimum body build and composition. Of the essential nutrients the macro-nutrients play a vital role as they provide fuel to the body for their strenuous physical activity.
