Fish, good source of protein of high biological value, minerals and fat soluble vitamins, constitutes a favourite Item in the dally menus of Bengalis Now-a-days sea fish and fish from estuaries are being increasingly available in the markets Because of rapid, unplanned industrialization along the western bank of the Hooghly river near the celebrated 'Sagar'island the industrial effluents containing various types of harmful chemicals including heavy metals are continuously changing the aqua eco-System.
