Supplementary feeding programmes are intended to improve the nutritional status of vulnerable population groups, but the governments and organizations supporting such programmes need objective evidence that they are achieving the desired impact. Unfortunately, the assessment of nutritional status is not always an easy undertaking and some of the standard procedures are very costly.
