Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease which is chronic in nature. It is one of the major diseases that affect the world’s population. Siddha medicine system is one of the traditional medicines of Tamil Nadu. Siddha drugs are prepared from herbs and minerals of natural origin, hence may be considered as a nutraceutical. Ilavangadhi Chooranum is a poly herbo mineral drug used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Identification of the minerals and phyto constituents in the formulation will help to improve the quality of the drug and scientifically relate the drug action with the constituent’s present. Hence the study was carried out to characterize the siddha formulation Ilavangadhi Chooranum by EDAX, XRD, SEM, UV, IR and GC-MS. The present investigation discovered that the primary elements present in the drug are magnesium and potasium as well as phytochemical constituents curcumin, zingerone, gingerol, penere and geronial.
