Prevalence of Iodine Deficiency in Children (6-12 Years) of a Tribal Dominated District in South Odisha

Iodine is an essential dietary nutrient that helps the body for production of thyroxin-the hormone that regulates normal growth and development. The quantity of Iodine requirement is minute i.e. 150-200 micrograms per day, which amounts to a pin head in a month. An average life time requirement of an individual would be less than a tea spoon full of iodine. Still, iodine deficiency Is one of the major health problems faced by the developing world with more than one billion people at risk.
