Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS) is India's most ambitious multidimensional welfare programme to reach millions of children and their mothers who are caught in the grip of malnutrition, diseases, illiteracy, ignorance and poverty. The scheme targets the most vulnerable groups of population including children upto six years of age, pregnant women and nursing mothers belonging to the poorest families and living in disadvantaged areas including backward rural areas, tribal areas and urban slums.
