Different food sources need to be preserved so as to cope with their high demands to increasing population. For that, certain chemicals, commonly known as food preservatives are extensively used. Sodium metabisulfite (SMB) is one such food preservatives, that act as an antimicrobial agent for food products like biscuits, chocolates, sausages, jams and jellies, as well as alcoholic liquors such as beer, wine, champagne etc.
