Diabetes is an "iceberg" diseases. According to recent estimates, tine prevalence of diabetes mellitus in adults is around four per cent worldwide, and this means that over 143 million people are now affected. It is projected that the disease prevalence will be 4.5 per cent by the year 2025, with global diabetic population reaching 300 million. Of which, nearly 77 per cent of the global burden of disease is projected to occur in the developing countries.
