Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and contributes to the stabilization of biological membranes, hence its deficiency may effect the membrane functions. Diehl has described that vitamin E deficiency stimulated the accumulation of α amino isobutyric acid in rabbit diaphragm while Imami et al have shown dimunition in intestinal transport of L-valine in vitamin E deficient rats.
