Bioavailability of Calcium and Phosphorus to Carp Maintained on Bran Diet

Calcium and phosphorus are indispensable elements for fish forming skeletal components as fin-rays, ribs and vertebrae. They are also essential for normal growth and metabolism. Common carps (C. carpio), salmons, trouts are reported to be affected significantly by inadequate amount of calcium and phosphorus in their diets. Indian major carp, Labeo rotiita Ham. fingerlings examined in a metabolic balance study were fed with artificial experimental diets containing different levels of wheat bran (5,10 and 15 per cent). Bran Is reported to alter calcium metabolism.
