Biochemical Studies on Postmenopausal Osteoporosis: Some Therapeutic Approaches

Osteoporosis connotes bone loss of sufficient magnitude so as to result in fracture due to minimal stress. This is primarily a metabolic bone disease of ambiguous origin, marked by a progressive decline in skeletal mass without alteration in the chemical composition of bone. The predisposed areas for fractures are the spine, the head of the femur and the wrist. Osteoporosis is more common in people aged 45 years and older, and women, especially postmenopausal women.
