Traditionally pulses are grown on low fertility soils under rain fed conditions. They are known to fix atmospheric nitrogen with the help of nitrogen fixing bacteria Rhizobium. When pulses were grown in experimental plots under similar agronomic conditions, locational differences and year to year differences were observed.
