The health risks of lead have been recognized as occupational hazards for more than two millenia, but with the advent of alkyllead additives to oil fuels some 50 years ago a major dispersive non-recoverable use of lead developed, producing high air concentrations in areas of dense motor vehicle traffic with widespread despersion to remote areas.
