Fluorosis, a chronic disorder affecting mainly teeth, bones and joints and caused mainly by the prolonged ingestion of fluoride - rich waters, is endemic in about 65 villages confined to an area of about 900 square kilometres in the central portions of the taluks of Darsi, Kanigiri and Podili in Ongole District (formerly in Nellore District) of Andhra Pradesh.
