On the basis of clinical observations on avitaminosis A and protein malnutrition diseases, a possible relationship between vitamin A and protein has been suggested. In vitamin A-deficient animals, a depressed growth rate, poor food and protein efficiencies accompanied by decreased nitrogen retention have been reported.
