Nutritional Profile of the Elderly Residing in Institutions of Mangalore City

Ageing can be described as the progressive constriction of the homeostatic reserve of every organ system. This decline to a large extent is influenced by diet, environment, and personal habits as weil as by genetic factors.' India is the second most populous country in the world with 72 miiiion elderly (above 60 years of age), constituting approximately eight per cent of the total Indian population. This number is low when compared to the developed countries, but it is expected to rise by 150 per cent i.e. 179 million by 2031.
