Iodine deficiency is tine world's most common endocrine problem, the easiest of the major nutritional deficiencies to correct and the most preventable cause of the mental retardation and brain damage. Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) embraces wide spectrum of disorders that affect all stages of human growth and development i.e. the fetus, the neonate, the child, the adolescent and the adult The at risk population for IDD is estimated to be about 2.2 billion in the world whereas it is around 200 million in India.
