Cancer is an alteration of the normal process of cell growth and multiplications and results when a cell and its descendents undergo some changes which allow them to escape from the control and proliferate in a harmful and abnormal way. In India, the incidence of cancer is more in men than in women.- Evaluation of Noon Meal through Biochemical Parameters

Selenium was found to be an essential trace element in 1957, when it was discovered that animals deficient in selenium had increased susceptibility to liver necrosis. Foods may contain excess or deficiency of selenium, thus leading to signs of toxicity or of deficiency disease. 'Alkali disease' in cattle occurs when grains and forages containing high levels of selenium are ingested. Geological and meteorological factors determine the relative abundance of selenium in the soil in different regions of the world, giving rise to practical problems of selenium toxicity or selenium deficiency that are of considerable economic importance.- Effect of Tulasi (Ocimum Sanctum) on Diabetes Mellitus

Vitamin A deficiency is a major public health problem in India. It is estimated that 10,000 to 12,000 persons in India, mostly children go blind due to this deficiency. Pre-schoolers (4 to 6 years) the most severe and alarming nutrition deficient sector get their vitamin A through vegetables and fruits. It has been demonstrated that inclusion of green leafy vegetables in their diets results in marked increase in their serum vitamin A concentration.- Effect of Ginger on Serum Cholesterol Levels

Ginger is a commonly used spice and is considered a valuable medicine because of its action as a rubefactant, diuretic and stimulant to the gastro intestinal tract. It is also reported to be antihyperglycemic. Gujral et al further demonstrated that ginger oleoresin, the active principle present in ginger lowers serum cholesterol level. Ginger oleoresin preparation is cumbersome and is not available in the market. Hence the present study has been undertaken with a view to ascertain if whole ginger could be administered to reduce cholesterol level in serum.- Changes in the Nutritive Value of Chekkurmenis at Different Stages of Growth

The use of urea in any country is determined by economic conditions, the existence of local chemical industry, the extent to which carbohydrate feeding stuffs are produced and the opportunities for the production or import of high protein feed. The challenge is to develop an efficient absolutely safe, high-level urea supplement at reasonable cost to supplement the principal deficiency of poor quality roughages for survival, maintenance and production feeding of ruminants.- Manometrrc and Biochemical Techniques

The author and the translator have rendered invaluable service to the field of molecular biophysics by bringing out this book. This serves as an excellent introduction to molecular biophysics. The book discusses mainly the structures and functions of the important biopolymers, like proteins and nucleic acids. It will be a good guide to biologists, physicists and chemists who wish to understand and unreveal the secrets of the basic phenomena of life.- 'The Determination of Carboxylic Functional Groups'

Two topics of current interest are treated in this book. They are: 1. Insect lipids; and 2. Pesticide residues in fats and other lipids. The first stage is reviewed at length by Paul G. Fast. Fast has presented comprehensive data on the fatty acid and phospholipid composition of insects has been discussed thoroughly. The chapters on the biosynthesis and metabolism of lipids in insects, give a wealth of interesting information.- Analysis of Three Hybrid Varieties of Wheat for Selected Nutrients
