There has been an upsurge in the incidence of renal stone disease in Europe and United States over the past 20 years. This condition affects one to 20 per cent of the general population with a lifetime incidence of 2 to 5 per cent in Asia, 8 to 15 per cent in Europe and North America and 20 per cent in Soudi Arabia.
