It is only towards the turn of the century that Nutrition had emerged as a scientific discipline from other basic sciences, notably, biochemistry and physiology. Nevertheless, in a comparatively short space of time, it has developed rapidly and overwhelmingly into an exact science, playing a role of ever-increasing importance in the field of public health.
