To combat the widespread proteincalorie malnutrition throughout the world, governments have in recent years increasingly embarked upon nutrition programmes, with international assistance of various types. The scope of these programmes has steadily increased, and they now include financial participation in nutrition surveys, training of national personnel, assistance with the nutrition of families, the starting of school and community gardens, the encouragement of fish culture and poultry raising, and the supplementing or enrichment of food with proteins, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
