A seed contains an embryonic plant in an inactive condition and germination is its resumption of growth. The young plant protected by varying layers of living and dead tissues has a reserve for the metabolism for initial development. The onset of germination after imbibition of water brings about considerable changes in the main food reserves of the seeds.

Abstract

A seed contains an embryonic plant in an inactive condition and germination is its resumption of growth. The young plant protected by varying layers of living and dead tissues has a reserve for the metabolism for initial development. The onset of germination after imbibition of water brings about considerable changes in the main food reserves of the seeds.
